Ausiello confirmed that we haven’t seen the last of Chase just yet!

Question: Any scoop on Arrow? —Anita
Ausiello: We haven’t seen the last of Thea’s DJ-boytoy, played by Austin Butler. “Like a lot of our characters, there’s maybe a little bit more to him than meets the eye,” exec producer Greg Berlanti teases. And will her papa Malcolm Merlyn have a take on the new guy in his daughter’s life? Says Berlanti with a laugh: “It would be surprising if he didn’t.”

Austin Butler to Star in MTV’s ‘Shannara’

Austin Butler is trading his “Carrie Diaries” leather jacket for a pair of elf ears to star in “Shannara,” MTV’s new fantasy series, Variety confirmed Monday.

Based on the sprawling book series by Terry Brooks, “Shannara” will follow Butler as Wil Ohmsford, who is half elf. When he learns that he is the last of the magical Shannara family, he must set out to find the Druid who holds the key to his future. “Shannara” takes place centuries after Earth’s current civilization destroyed itself in a nuclear holocaust. MTV’s take on the saga will begin with the second book in the series, “The Elfstones of Shannara.”

MTV ordered 10 episodes of the series in July, hoping to establish a “Lord of the Rings”-type franchise for the network. Brooks’ novels have undergone many attempts at Hollywood development since “The Sword of Shannara,” the first in the series, was published in the late 1970s.

Jonathan Liebesman (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) is set to direct the first two episodes alongside showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough (“Smallville”).

Since his turn as Sebastian on “The Carrie Diaries,” Butler has appeared on the CW’s “Arrow.” He can next be seen in Kevin Smith’s “Yoga Hosers” opposite Johnny Depp.

Butler is repped by WME and Anonymous Content.

The news of Butler’s casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
